At the Center… At the center of all we do is a love story. It’s a love story of a Creator lovingly fashioning a world for His ultimate creation: mankind. It’s the story of mankind turning its back on this Creator—collectively and individually. This turn away from God, this Fall into sin, created a chasm so deep and wide between the Creator and His creation that nothing any of us could do could bridge it. We would be separated from God in this life, and we would be separated from Him after our death—this separation being hell. But the Creator wasn't done. Knowing always that His Creation would sin, He had fully prepared a way to cross the great divide. To pay the price for our sin, He sent His Son. He withheld judgment and instead offered mercy. This Son, one with the Father and full of grace and Truth, lived and walked this earth, never sinning. This Son—Jesus Christ—willingly and with joy stared death in the face and chose to die, because He loves us. He knew that His death—His own blood being shed—would cover our sins with loving forgiveness, and give us power over sin in this life. And His death on a cross would allow us to cross the chasm of separation and have a living, breathing relationship with the Creator of the universe. We would have the opportunity to know God. And then the amazing happened. Death could not contain Jesus. He resurrected, raised to life again by the power of His Holy Spirit, guaranteeing for those that choose to follow Him, that death would not contain them either. The grave would not be their end, but instead eternal life in heaven with Him. So this offer of true life in relationship with God now, and eternal life in heaven is offered as a gift to every person, undeserved as we are. Whether willingly or ignorantly, we’ve all chosen our own way. God has something better to offer us: life, peace, hope, love, purpose, joy, forgiveness, strength, self-discipline, knowing God. How do we enter into this relationship? Well, it’s a gift. A gift has to be received. We receive by recognizing our need for forgiveness. “I have sinned against you, God. I broke relationship. I need your help.” We confess these sins, turning our back on them and turning to Christ. We receive the gift, thankfully and joyfully! And then, through the power of God’s Holy Spirit, we begin to show our love for Him by obeying His commands and walking this life with Him, knowing Him more deeply every day.
